Digital Distortions when recording Audio

I am having really big problems when recording audio in Live 5 with my FW410. There´s regular distortions, i cannot record anymore. these problems did appear before only once in a while. But last week i updated a package of mac-programs,
and now it´s just chaos. Live 5 also seems to be much slower, the same songs that were running on CPU of 40-50% are now having peaks of 65-109%(!).
What happened and what can i do?
