Best dj audio card/setup?

Post by claudek » Sun Sep 18, 2005 8:50 pm

I am thinking of trying dj'ing with Live after all my complaining :))
So what does one recommend for a simple audio card for a Mac Ibook
and maybe controller? Or all in 1?
Mac G4 Quicksilver 1000GHz / Motu 828 /OSX 10.3.9
&
Mac Ibook G4 800GHz OSX 10.3.9 /Core Audio/M Audio Oxy 8
PC: ASUS 2.8 GHz P4 / XP

i'd go for a 2 channel output soundcard,analog-RCA[not stereojacks]..
find U46dj at djdeals.com ..a little expensive,but..

I'd also recommend the firewire audiophile. You'll need two stereo outputs in order to cue songs in your headphones

This could maybe work ok as it has ASIO Poorman's solution?
Maybe one stereo out through asio and m aybe I can monitor through built in
audio on the Ibook or through this interface.
I have a Edirol (Roland) audio interface now but just simple audio out..
works great.

Hi,

I use Live 4 with a midi controller for EVERYTHING. Specifically, I dj with it all the time. You can find notes about how I use this setup over on my forum.

You know the UC-33e isn't an audio interface?

look for an Edirol UR80, it's very cheap nowadays
It has lots of controllers, it can emulate mackie control, the audio interface is not bad, and it work great with Tiger on my Ibook, with a nice latency.
It could be cool for Djing too.
Currently, i'm preparing a live act with my Ibook and The UR80, very nice and compact solution (it's bigger than the UC33 though..)

Behringer B-Control DeeJay?
MIDI and Audio in one. Maybe a BIT too simple tho.

Hercules?
MIDI and Audio in one. Maybe a bit too simple (and pricey)

Any of the Behringer B-Control stuff is nice and WAY cheap

I have The BCR 2000. Works NICELY.
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

I have the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile.... and have been quite pleased.

Only drawback is.... it requires its own power cord. But that's fine by me.

i have a terratec phase 26 that has 3 stereo outputs, this lets me use my 3channel dj mixer like as if i was a playing them 12 inch black disks thati used to use. i think that more outputs gives more flexability

Edirol is Roland. The headphone mix is cool too.
Also no power adpator needed.
