Lets make a new section in the forum for DJ talk

Discuss music production with Ableton Live.

What do you think of the idea of having a DJ section?

That is a great idea!

Lets make a new section in the forum for DJ talk

Post by atomic » Tue Sep 20, 2005 11:12 am

Well not much to be said but i think it may be a good idea to have a new section in the forum for folks that are talking about DJ'ing with ableton live as opposed to producing with it. The aim is to keep things just slightly organized in the forum.

I am going to make this a poll just for the hell of it.
ABIT NF7+AMDXP@2500, RME Multiface, TC Powercore Element+Virus, UAD-1, Nord Lead2, Reason2.5, impOSCar, Microtonic, Reaktor5 and some other stuff...

they should also do a stripped down DJ version of Live with a nudge feature...this should be great to bridge a gap for those wanting Live's functionality but only to drop some short loops without real effects or great parameters,etc...

Just an idea

Limit words to 5 letters or less and time signature to 4/4.

Can we have a musician & producer section, too?

i think separating it off is not necessary. i must admit though to noticing that a lot of new people ask the same questions wrt. djing that perhaps a search (or even a FAQ) might reduce.

cue: thread about splitting the forum number 46, 320, 186

No, viewing the subject line of the odd threads that appear specifically for Djs will not make producers go blind nor vice versa.

The other main regular "can we have a different forum for..." threads are (OT), aka Politics, religion and race.

Segregation only deprives people of enhancing their knowledge by viewing something that might otherwise not apply to them.

Alot of forums, like Kvr and OSX audio are far less personal or interesting because there are too many options, so that means less of a varied mix of people to each one.

So take that as a no vote.

I love to see a DJ version of Live..More dediicated to djing..Stripped down but
dj feaures..maybe 6 tracks audio lines. but more like mixer lines.
I'd love to see a plugin or way to manually touch the mp3..(A jogwheel) like in Traktor.Soemtimes, even when a song is beatmapped tight it still may need a nudge..I find this hard to get in Live..

I agree that KVR is too split .. but this forum is not split enough.

If there was a DJ forum it might help the recent influx of DJs to ableton find relevant answers without me ridiculing them for not knowing what a send is.;)

there have been a number of good suggestions for a new forum, none of them taken. So this is all pointless anyway.

I agree that Ableton should release a 'DJ' version and a 'producer' version. Not my choice though.

Deejay version could be cheaper.

It doesn't need a manual... :?

[/quote]

This forum *is* a n00b section. All pro-level production chat is on the Logic & ProTools forum :)

(As a DJ) My intital love for Live was the clean interface & simplicity of use... it's rapidly losing that. Maybe there is a way of disabling certain features which are included during the install and/or when the program boots up.

hehe, speak for yourself Dan. I'd hardly call Chris Cowie, Adam Jay, GlobalGoon etc. newbs.
There are a lot of people on this board who have a more than adequate knowledge of all things studio-oriented, and who've rejected such progz as Logic. The amount of posts about reaktor, bidule, bome's and Controlaid point to that fact also, if you ask me.
