Firewire Solo works, but sometimes disappears

Hi, I'd appreciate some advice from the more experienced members here:

I started out with a PreSonus Firebox. I could never get it stable, and Live 5.0.2 crashed a lot.

Then I tried a M-Audio Firewire Solo. It's stable and sounds fine.

But occasionally it just disappears and I have to unplug it and plug it back in, or restart if that doesn't work.

I get a message saying "Can't find M-Audio Firewire Solo" and "Audio not available, please select another source."

At other times, the Firewire Solo doesn't show up when I restart.

Any tips?
