Selectable Colors for Warp/Clip Markers

Post by masterbeat9999 » Thu Oct 20, 2005 12:40 am

We all know what a great tool Live has become for DJing, even though it wasn't originally meant for that... Ableton has done a great job adding some features for DJ use in 5.0...

I have a simple (hopefully) yet infinitely useful request - the ability to select different colors for the warp markers (or to add different types of markers to the clip view.) It would be great if you could right-click on a marker and choose a color for it, or right click and place special markers in addition to the WARP markers.

It is sometimes difficult to tell your place in the end of a track as you are DJing, so I know a lot of DJs, including myself, who are placing WARP markers 32 and 64 counts before the end of a track, so that in clip view you can see where you are at in a track (when you are fully zoomed out) and see when you have 32/64 counts left by seeing an approaching clip marker.

It would be great if Live would allow us to CHOOSE COLORS for these warp markers (or, if it doesn't make technical sense to change colors of the WARP markers then ADD THE ABILITY to place markers in the clip of different colors that the DJ can use to mean different things). Other software lets you do this...

For example, it would be great to place a RED marker 32 counts before the end, a BLUE marker 64 counts, and so on. You could also use this at the beginning and elsewhere in the tracks to help visually flag to yourself where breakdowns are, or where beats start at the beginning of a track, so you can easily move to special parts of a track based on the color of a new special marker or a colored WARP marker.

What do you think DJ's / Ableton?

totally agree.

better to make the warp markers a more neutral color (black? white?) and allow us to choose our own colors for markers we can place anywhere

then you can separate structure from the markers. good one

in the meantime, i can tell you what i do to help me see where i am, and ive posted about this before, is, i set the gain on all my tracks to -2.
then i can easily see the play position poking above and below the peaks of the wave.
