Not diff. for Live until the Mac version starts to take advantage of multiple processors though. If it did my order would already be in, as it is now though next machine here's a Macintel.
Talking of which, as Mac developers I wonder if the Abes got a Macintel machine to develop on and if so what are they doing with it.....the mind gobbles.

For getting that intel dev kit. You need to be a "gold" ADC member.muthafunka wrote:Not diff. for Live until the Mac version starts to take advantage of multiple processors though. If it did my order would already be in, as it is now though next machine here's a Macintel.

I doubt Ableton is a gold member. Because they only have one app.

For me this does probably mean that I will replace my dead 2x2 G5 with a centrino lappy. Since no PCI-x equippement will work on these new Mac's no one will sell their recent dual G5 to pick up one of these new babies. So there goes my plan to get a dirt chep secondhand dual G5
New plan now is to find a centrino and one or two big firewire drives to share with the powerbook. Will keep my Powerbook with Logic 7+ for mastering CDs and 5.1 files but I will probably be doing more studio producing in Live from now. Maybe that won't be as fast as Logic on a fast machine, but very fun

Spare cash? Not friggin' likely! More like a maxed-out credit card, new business loan almost used up, eBaying loads of stuff, and freelance graphic design work!
I'm only after the quad beast... the 30" Cinema Displays, super-duper video card, and 16GB RAM will have to wait!
I have toyed with the idea of using Live on my 8' x 6' projector screen for a laugh, though!

I reckon you'd sdtill get pretty ace performance with the quad mac machine even though Ableton (sadly!) doesn't support multi-processor setups.
Apparently OS X designates an entire processor to an app (i.e. the operating system, task management, every other app all running on other processors).
So you'd probably still see a boost using this machine.

It's the live video performance I'm after, and QuickTime processing is the most important element. It hopefully will use all four processors.
And anyone using Motion 2 for graphics will tell you how fantastic it is for your stuff to be rendered live on the fly as you work on it. That'll be a dream with the quad beast.
