Vsts good for Live-DJ

Post by Airbase » Fri Oct 21, 2005 12:00 pm

Searching for good, live, dj, plugins, vst didnt really take me anywhere, so I'm posting a topic instead.

The new laptop will be picked up today, so will the audio interface. No I will only have to wait for my faderfox (I dismissed the 3X, for you who remember my earlier post).

For this laptop, I will only use live and nothing else, so I will keep the installation as simple as possible.

A question though, im gonna install WNMemory, Phutboyslim and Supatrigga, all good for live editing when performing with Live (All of them does similar things, so I will probably keep the one i like the most after a few hours of test running).

Anyhow, are there other good plugins I definately should have installed and assigned for live controlling? Like fazers or delays etc, to make the show more "editable" on the fly? I guess the delays within Live are good enough, but there must be more fun vst FX to use with Live to improvise the sets I'm about to play?

Thanks in advance!

Ableton's stock AutoFilter for one, so you can do sasha-esque filtering on the fly, just set controls for the frequency and depth, that's just two knobs.

And i suggest the ping pong delay, set a control for feedback, and another for the time base (2,3,....6) , that's another 2 knobs

we're up to 4 controls, and a wide range of fx good for dancers!

oh, and you should download my mix of Freefall (on my site)

thx,

Thanks for the tips!

Gave the track a listen! It's monotone yet funky, I like that. I dont know much about this kind of music, but the production sounds really good. I'm a bit allergic to that kind of vocals, but the rest is top notch!

Thank you for the feedback. It's probably too introverted for most dancefloors, yes, you are correct. I enjoy getting comments that poke holes in the production, it's good for my learning.

Perhaps give my mix a spin... "Up to the minute" , it's how I DJ with ableton to non-industrial crowds. I hope you enjoy it!

Camel Audio

Post by BriGuy » Mon Oct 24, 2005 10:39 am

The plug-ins from Camel Audio http://www.camelaudio.com (Camel Space especially) are amazing for doing amazing things to loops in an interactive live setting (how many times can I use the word 'amazing' in one sentence!?). Camel Space comes with 3 banks of presets, many of which give you instant trance gating effects. I've used it in this track here (arranged with Live 5):

I've also used it on recorded guitar parts. You've gotta check it out.

BTW - I love the original tracks on your Statikfire site! That's coming from a Mode fan from "A Broken Frame" days.
