Recording 'what you hear'
Anyone know of an app that will record whatever's going through the soundcard? If I'm lifting some speech samples from a DVD that's playing, is there any way of recording it without going through the whole ripping scenario? I used to have a Soundblaster soundcard that had a 'record what you hear' option. No so with this M-Audio kit.

that's still not a "what you hear" option.clipperer wrote:there somewhere in properties you can select what recording options are visible and then just select somethingTonySoprano wrote:I'm onWindows, using an M-Audio Audiophine USB. Using the Soundblaster, there was a 'what u hear' option. Don't seem to see an equivalent in the XP options.

machinate- i got you:)
had the same deal with the sound blaster, then got a new laptop and was frustrated i couldnt "record what i heard."
download a nifty little free app called "virtual audio cable"
here:

read a little bit about what it does and how to set it up.
i use it in conjunction with sound forge 7 and i can now record anything that is going on in my computer (including lines from movies that are playing on my dvd player!)
enjoy.
