Just checkout out Live 5 and Oh my God!!....

Post by luke_l » Tue Nov 01, 2005 8:51 am

Sorry to rant but I need to get this out of my system.... thought I 'd see what all the fuss was about and download the Live 5 demo... this is possibly the greatest peice of software I have ever used. Talk about designed for creativity... this is the sh!t. I've always been into DJ'ing and have been building a small studio based around Cubase over the years .. only problem was I'm the sort of producer that loves creating fresh tracks but never gets round to actually finishing them. THis is the perfect solution... and the possibilities are endless. Live Dj sets can take on a whole new meaning and production is so much more fun. I'm totally sold and will be buying my copy today.

Be aware of the endless bug-attacks, even in 5.02! I (and I'm not alone, for shure!) can't even render our songs in Live 5.x, so now your'e warned! A lot of us still feel like we are beta-testing Live  There are threads about this issue on this forum, somewhere.

The Abes seems to give a good day in this problem, since there's no splaining from Abletonia why this is happening, and when (or IF) they gonna fix this MAJOR bug that makes Live 5.x Totally useless for a lot of us..!

SO WAKE UP, ABES!!!

Good luck (indeed) if you go for it before the release of 5.03, or someting that makes us able to finish our work/songs, so we can still make a living out of it. If you go on stage with 5.x you'll be one of the bravest men on earth; I would rather be launched in orbit around Mars than go onstage with a Very unstable/useless host like Live 5.x are theese days

Have all the other releases, from 1.x to 5.x, and this problem/bug is 5.x-only. Try out Live 4.x and compare, and you'll know what I mean..

It's not all doom and gloom.

I routinely gig with 5.0.2 with no problems whatsoever.

Seems to be an epidemic!

welcome luke_l,

I came to the same realization when version 4 came out and have never looked back to Cubase. Nor have I had a single problem with any version of Live. It's a whole new world. :)

I've played out with it a few times too. No probs.

I've never had a crash either. Not denying there are probs but thought I'd post for sake of balance.

1. bugs and new software are as normal as eating and shitting afterwards
2. a lot of problems blamed on ableton have workarounds, just as you had to with other software or hardware. my jx-3p does not do everything I wanted to also.
stop nagging; be creative.
3. ableton is the absolute summum as far as software audio-applications go.
take the shit that comes with that as a man, in stead as a child..
(not referring to anyone in particular, but I just had to vent this, people that come and do abletonbashing, impatience on a new update, and wining on about worth for their money and stuff, just piss me off)
I am not much into worshipping anything except a nice womans ass, but ableton is getting there....

be careful, with live 5 it's even more likely that you never finish a track but end up trying out endless combinations of plugins, settings, arrangements ... way too much possibilities to play around. it takes a lot of strength and focus to actually finish something with this bag full of goodies. I have live 5 since it came out and I did not even listen to half of the clips that came with it. So much to explore here ....

Welcome to your new addiction.
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

hello and welcome to the forum, also be sure to pick up a copy of FL 6 and fxpansions Guru to go along with Live 5, the combination will be exquisite and all of your elitist peers ramblings will fall on deaf ears and quiet smiles

Yeah, it's difficult to forget sometimes how amazing Live is. As much as I bitch about it's brutal CPU usage on a Mac, I couldn't live without it now.

I speak for myself, and I think I would manage to do a simple workaround, if it was possible, to render my songs in Live 5.x!

To get a little perspective:
I used to run Cubase vst 32 5.0 and Logic before i discovered Live 1.x years ago, and have produced music with DAWs since '95. I build computers and set up DAWs for my own use and for sale, and have done it for years, as with programming sounds and software. So when a bug is crawling up to the surface, I recognize the creep pretty fast! And I have delt with Live for years, so I know every release pretty good by now - and Live 5.x won't render my songs, but 1-2-3 and 4.x does! And as far as I can see it, as a musician, the Final part of composing in Live, or other hosts, is to RENDER THE SONG TO 16 BIT!

I wont complain alot about it, cause I trust by experiece the abes. They use to follow up their users in a very pleasant way. At least they used to, haven't had probs for a while until i upgraded to 5.x.

And, yes, it's a brilliant host we got here, no doubt about that! Just want my songs on a cd asap!

Hope you won't dig up the same bugs as some of us have done, luke_l - good luck and welcome onboard
