is there a piece of software (OS X) that will allow me to seperate vocals from music? or maybe a way you can get results using filters or something??
i want to keep the vocals & loose the music.
how do i strip vocals from a track?
No magic way to do this ... you can try working the EQ or if you have an identical instrumental version, you can invert one of the two, and mix this one with the non inverted one ...
An excellent how-to can be found here : http://4trak.net/dsico/archives/000082.html
Don't forget to enjoy Dsico's remix' as well .. they're DOPE

Re: how do i strip vocals from a track?
Just to add to the other post, which is more useful than this one: the magic way to do it is called 'Blind Source Separation', and you can find more info about it than you would probably like to read. There are a couple demo applications, and packages for apps like Matlab, which will let you play with techniques in this field, which range from: "subtract right channel from left", to something called independent components or independent subspace analysis. Anyway, there is a lot of knowledge about the effect you are talking about due to its relevance to karaoke.Anonymous wrote:is there a piece of software (OS X) that will allow me to seperate vocals from music? or maybe a way you can get results using filters or something??

As far as I know your success will vary depending on the characteristics of your recording, and how it was recorded.
