When I install a new Audio Unit, I have to restart live in order to detect it if live is open during the install. For some reason, it does not seem to detect new AU's within the preference dialog's rescan option. I have had no problems doing the same operations with VST plugins; it seems to be specific to Audio Units.

Why do you have to install them when Live is running? And like you say, if you relaunch Live they're detected from now on. Are you uninstalling and reinstalling themevery couple minutes where it becomes a hassle to relaunch one time?

Actually, yes, I do. I'm a plugin developer, and make several dozen plugin builds every day for testing. Although I primarily debug with live4 because it has a faster startup time, a bug is a bug, and this one seems relatively easy for the abes to fix.

Ah, I see, well yeah but isn't that what the "re-scan" plugins button in plug in tab in prefs is for?
There must be a reason it was necessary for them to put a refresh button instead of them updating automatically.

It doesn't always work (re-read my original post). That's why I started this thread.

Is that a new build of the same AU that is not detected, i.e. a new component file, or is it another one (versioned)? I recall reading something about this in Apple's AU developer docs. Didn't think it would be a problem, but Live might work differently. Does it help if you remove the AU from the track and then add it again?
