Post by leere » Wed Nov 16, 2005 1:52 am

hi!

i have a serius problem my new powerbook and live 5.
just bought them along with a motu traveler interface and more RAM (traded my drumkit).

many times now the cpu has gone up 60-70% and by just using 1 track.

i'm not a heavy user with effects since most of my samples i already fixed.
but i noticed that when i used the reverb for only ine track (i used the returntrack) it went up to 57% for nothing. with just one track!

i need some serius help cause i got a gig soon. and the realese i january.

HELP !

btw: used live 2.1 on a 2 year old pc before. it workded ok. but this?

A) make sure you are on "highest" processor performance in System Preferences / Energy Saver / Options. By default, new macs are set to Automatic, which does not give you the best performance.

B) make sure you are at a safe sample rate such as 44.1khz or 48khz

C) use Apple AUMatrixReverb (its free and comes with all new macs, in your audio units folder, make sure audio units are turned on in Live preferences /plug-ins) instead of Ableton Reverb to save CPU. If you must use Ableton Reverb on stage, use the economy setting, and use it in a return, so you can share it among multiple tracks. 1 Reverb dedicated on a single track is not effecient.

D) when possible, use EQ4 instead of EQ3. uses much less cpu.

E) turn off all unused inputs and outputs in Live preferences / audio / input & output configs.

F) only turn on Delay Compensation if you truley need it.
