Any PC NOT having problems with M audio FW ?

Post by rikhyray » Sat Nov 19, 2005 5:49 pm

It coudnt be worse my M audio experience. 2 weeks ago audio was gone 2 times live on stage. I sent it to M audio, came back supposedly tested to be perfect and now it happens all the time, tried old driver, ASIO4all even no audio at all ( means using Indigo) I thought OK, keeping the usefull features, using reliable audio card. But it does not work even as a midi controller. Obviously the FW connection get interrupted for unknown reason
I like it and woudnt mind to use it with Indigo but when even it drops its Midi connection , I see hardly any option. My music partition runs 7 services default, nearly everything possible deactived. Notebook has TI chip, i have no more ideas what to try.
I know, I know should know better....just that there absolutely nothing else like Ozonic. Only if it worked!
After searching internet I start to wonder if there are any performers actually using M audio FW on stage. Tons of people with problems. It would be OK to use home but I want to use it on stage or.. scrap it. Any details from happy users of M audio firewire products will be appreciated.

It indeed one of two possible problems Rikhray .

1.The M-Audio is just plain old problematic in use with your laptop.

The other possibility isn't a great one and you'll need another Firewire Audio interface to check if this is the case.

2.On some (not all) Sonoma based notebooks with PCI express you can get problems with data transfer to and from FW devices.
In some instances the device won't work at all and in most instance you get an interuppted and somewhat buggy data stream from the Firewire port.
I know this does not happen in all PCI express based laptops but is has been an issue with some DAW configs depending on the type of graphics catrd used in the PCI express based notebook.

Lastly have you tried purchasing a PCMCIA firewire card and running the M-Audio FW off that instead. I would check all options first and this may also solve your problem at the moment for minimal outlay.

Hope you get the problems fixed buddy  .
Take care.

I gave up on my Ozonic. I couldn't deal with the pops, clicks, then silence that required continually resetting the driver.

FWIW, mLAN is working great for me.

I'm bummed at maudio and the "flakey" support for fw products. I too had an maudio fw device that was checked out to "fine" that indeed wasn't fine.

The above suggesting of the pcmcia card is a good idea to try, most places will take that back if it doesn't work.

Had a lot of troubles with a vaio laptop and a m-audio fw1814. A pcmcia ieee card solved most of them. Then maybe there is a shared RAM graphic card problem, so if you haven't already, upgrade the ram of the laptop.
Another suggestion would be using the pc in standard mode ie not ACPI to manually assign irqs - though this is not reccomended, but it might work.

My M-Audio firewire audiophile has worked %100 for over 8 months now. Not a single issue with Live or Traktor and I have used it in a live (clubs and parties) setting over 20 times now.

I like trance.

Apple Macbook Pro 2010 13inch, Windows 7 64bit, no OSX, Live 7.

I couldn't get my M-Audio FireWire Audiophole to work on my PC at all. Works fine on my 2 Macs though.

I am on Macs.

I just wanted to chime in to show that the M-Audio problems aren't only on PCs.

Im over M-Aduio. Their old soundcards were awesome... the Delta44 was the best thing on the planet once upon a time. Now all their cheap firewire interfaces are problematic and i dont know a single person who has not had trouble with them.

Looking at their website i see a whole range of crappy new cheap bizarre things and i think its close to bed time for the company as far as being taken seriously goes.

IMO, M-Audio have turned into a Chinese toy factory masquerading as pro audio. I can't rely on it professionally.

I fortunately ditched my Ozonic before it fried my Mac FW interface.

You get what you pay for... caveat emptor... etc...
