I'm a non live user...but maybe I will be

hi! I'm still using the demo version of Live 4 simply because I'm still not so convinced if I can use it in a live environment the way I want to.
is it possible to mix between livesets in Live? I've been searching the forums a bit and appearantly that still isn't possible after 5 versions of live? why is that?
I can't put all of my songs in one set because the BPM and effects and stuff is quite different in every song. and I also would like to have a clear view per song. having all my songs in one set will just be too cluttered. should I use 2 instances of live? are there people who do their livesets this way? maybe people here can give me advice on how to mix my tracks and overcome stuff like BPM difference, routing difference (the sends) and stuff like that. without using 2 versions of live.
but suppose I use 2 instances of live. how will that work if I have a midi controller set it up? will the midi messages only respond to the active ableton or not? or do I have to use 2 controllers?
anyway, I await the reply's off the live guru's
greetings
