I have an Alesis DM5 drum module sending midi notes to my midi in on my audio interface. The triggers come from drum pads that I play with sticks.
When I try to use the midi overdub feature on a midi clip I have a strange problem. The first pass of the loop records every note just fine. When I actually end the loop, and start repeating it, Live only captures a random note here and there.
I can still here the notes being triggered, they just don't get recorded.
I tried the same setup with my midi keyboard to try to narrow down the problem, and it worked fine. I can keep overdubbing on each pass of the loop with no problem.
This is strange because with the DM5 the first pass is fine. After the first pass it will record a few notes, but only randomly.
Thanks for any ideas.
Anyone using a DM5 drum module?

Hey Spazmatron!
Sorry to hit you with another simple question about your set-up but ...
Are you recording MIDI to Live and playing it back to the DM5 ???
If so you maybe playing more notes than the DM5 can handle ...
I think it's total polyphony is only 32 voices ...
Another thing to look out for is you may be using sounds that have Mute groups or exclusive groups. Which ineffect means mono so layerd MIDI parts will cut off others.
Hope this sheds some light on it for you !!!

I'm using the DM5 strictly as a trigger to midi converter, to trigger samples via impulse, battery, RMIV, etc.
It's not the mute groups either.
To trouble shoot I tried the exact same setup with my midi keyboard and it worked just fine.
With the DM5 it works fine the first pass while recording the midi loop, but once it starts looping, the results are not good.
Thanks for the try!
any other ideas?
