Guitar Rig - crashes in Live 5 when I change patches

Post by Liam » Tue Dec 13, 2005 5:48 pm

Hi, anyone know the cause / solution for this problem? I tried searching this forum as I thought there was some link posted for the NI solution - I'm about to try there (their forum) now.

Live 5 crashes when I change a patch in GR (ver 1.2) Not every time but usually after the first 3 changes.

Regards

The VST plugin does that for me, but the AU works fine.
But I guess that doesn't really help you at all.

I took a look at the NI forums after the GuitarRig 2 demo crashed on my Mac. There seems to be a completely different atmosphere than on this forum - it's quite bad. One of the main reasons seems to be that the NI people do not fix bugs but instead charge for upgrades that introduce new bugs before they even got the old version right... which is an old and bad trick

At that point I had just ordered GR2. But after visiting NIs forum I immediately cancelled the order (and decided against B4, too). Now I'm waiting for a Pod XT Pro.

I never before noticed that you can learn such a lot about a company by carefully reading their forums. I like Ableton even more now! :)

Sorry, I do not know why.

It's very interesting why this happens. So much for protocols!

I updated to Guitar Rig 1.2etc but still the same problem.

How could anyone use this device in performances?

I've been using Guitar Rig for about a year on my slow old PowerBook, and I have never experienced a patch-change crash or any other bug, for that matter. Everything works fine for me and I have indeed performed live with this setup on multiple occasions. I have no problem using MIDI learn within Live (using GR's own MIDI panel, NOT the Live "MIDI" button).

The only problem I've ever had is with Guitar Rig 2 and Live 5, wherein use of my external MIDI expression pedal causes a nasty zipper noise. GR2 is so new and Live 5's MIDI functions so buggy that I don't blame NI for this one (though I do have confidence Ableton will fix this).

While I'm angry at NI for releasing a really buggy Absynth 3, as far as I'm concerned Guitar Rig 2 is a very fair upgrade. I do wish they would offer a software-only version for new users, as their improved foot controller is still kind of a joke.

live 5 + rig 1.2 + change preset = crash

rig 1.2.1 and 2.0 works fine

you can avoid crash in 1.2 is you first change the preset in the ableton vst window (the one in the bus where plugins are inserted)

expect you understand, my english is not well

Glad that works for you. It made no difference on my PC - except that LIVE crashed immediately rather than after several patch changes. So that is actually worse than using the GR menu.

I have not yet installed the demo of GR 2 software as I am waiting for NI to send me the full update (overdue).

If I still experience this problem after that then I will let you all know.

I fear I am eating my words right now- my MIDI/noise problem with GR2 is in fact happening in Live 4 as well. No crashes, but still not usable. Hopefully tech support will get back to me soon, as I currently have no way to use GR2 in Live. Sigh...

I apologize for the misinformation, and I hope *all* of our Live+GR problems will be solved soon.

After installing the Guitar Rig 2 update the "patch change - then crash" problem has disappeared.

Go figure.

It appears very stable now.

Live 5 and Guitar Rig

Post by jazzy » Sat Dec 17, 2005 11:39 am

Hi
Can just confirm your bugs, however this bug has been know for several months now. You should be able to find this when searching this forum. The GR 1.2.1 suppose to fix the chrash when switcing pre-sets.

GR2 and Live 5 does not seems to chrash for me, however I was quite pissed when I discover that the MIDI lrn function didn't work properly. However, you can assign some control using Lives MIDI learn and expand the VST plugin window .

On the positive side, I think GR" sound better then 1.2 .

Good luck !
