Using Live for DJing- what am I missing here?!?

I'd like to try using Live for DJing, but with the current set-up I have, am having trouble working out how... Maybe I'm missing something obvious here- if so, I apologise- but I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give.

I've got Live 5, a powerbook and a MOTU 828mkII interface. Can someone explain how I'd configue these to have a mix and a cue mix?

Using just the powerbook (the ideal) only leaves you with the built in audio (2 in, 2 out). So how do people DJ with just their laptop?! I thought maybe using each channel as a seperate mono mix, but then how would you send each of those out to headphones AND a pa?!

The MOTU I cant really be carting around to DJ with, but regardless of that, you can only send Ablteton's output out of one output pair on it- so thats no good for it either!

again, sorry if this is a bit dim- but I'll be grateful for anyone pointing the way!

How are you planning on DJing? with just the laptop? no mixer? no usb controller?

Id' advise you using the MOTU

I'm pretty sure you are wrong about the MOTU. The MOTU has 8 mono outs (thats 4 stereo outs) plus a stereo headphone out. each can be assigned seperatlly so you could have 4 seperate tracks in live each going to a seperate stereo pair out on the MOTU. And a seperate headphone out that can be seperatlly assigned (I think) or you could have 8 seperate track in live each assigned to a seperate mono out.

If you're not gonna use the MOTU then yeah you get 2 mono outs. Live can be your mixer. so if you don't have a DJ mixer you could have one mono out to the PA; crossfading between tracks in live and have the other mono out be your headphone mix with some creative cabling. if you are using a DJ mixer you could have a mono out go to each in on the mixer.

You are going to have to explain what you want to do better.

describe exactally what gear you are going to have. laptop, MOTU, headphones and a PA system that you are connecting to. is that it?
