buying a new soundcard

I think I've finally given up and accepted that all the problems I've been having with live 5 are down to my soundcard (ie it's totally fine when i use the onboard sound) so I'm thinking of buying a new one. needs to be at least 4 ins and outs. anyone got any suggestions?

I ditched my troublesome M-Audio interface and replaced it with Yamaha mLAN. I haven't had a single problem since.

Some people don't have any issues with the M-Audio stuff, though.

what the cheapest (but problem free) sound card with SPDIF for a desktop? I want to use my non-DAW machine as an added synth rack. Any advice?
