Happy new year.
Hi...I'm new to the forum, to Live 5, and to home/PC recording in general. I have an M-Audio Firewire 410 midi interface, a work station keyboard, a shure mic, and midi cables. I'm working off a Dell Inspiron 6000 w/ Windows XP. I guess I more or less have everything I need to start.
Does anyone have any suggestions for getting up and running quickly on Live if you're relatively new to the terminology and basics of recording? Are there any sites or books anyone would recommend for total newbees???
all the best,
paul
Total Newbee to Live AND PC recording...getting started???
Live comes bundled with a very easy to understand manual, there's nice lessons in the install, tutorials can be downloaded from the ableton site.
then there's the search function of the forum once you have mastered some of the terminology and workflows
searching the forum will bring some results for books like 'Live power 5' iirc.
personally, going through the tips and tricks section will give you enough information to keep a newbie busy for months.
just go through the manual and try out stuff. you'll get the hang of it soon enough.
welcome!

hey...thanks for the reply
i'm right out of the box, man....For instance, I just tried to set up my M-Audio FireWire 410 on my computer and i got an alert message that said something like (and I'm paraphrasing) "this software is not part of a list of approved softwares and may do damage to my computer"
the thing is, on the box it says that it's compatible with Windows XP
Dell of course wants $100 bucks JUST to answer my question, so I figured I would go another way.
Are you aware of others getting this message and how they dealt with it?
thanks
paul

i'm sorry man, i know nothing of that kind of stuff as i'm on mac. have you installed the drivers for the 410 properly?
setting up your system for the first time can mean severe headaches, but if you do it right, it should be one time effort.
good luck.
