Frontier Tranzport and Live 5?
Frontier Tranzport and Live 5?
Can anyone using Tranzport explain what does and does not work in Live 5 using the Tranzport's Cubase/Mackie Emulation?
I've found that you can choose tracks/record, navigate markers (but not add them), turn on loop mode (but not set loop points)>
Almost good enough -- the main thing it lacks is that you can't record a clip directly into session view -- instead you arm/engage general record which then places the file into the general Ableton temp folder, where you then have to drag it to the correct track.
In other words, almost. Looking for a solution that will allow me to record clips directly into the clip slots.

You people might want to consider Apple Remote instead:
I can sit on my couch in my studio running my DAW from my laptop with total control for DP, LIVE, Safari, mail, etc. It even let's me do simultaneous updates on all my systems at once. check it out, I'm seriously in love with this program.

Hmm, doesn't the Apple remote only work with the iMac G5? Also isn't it an infrared remote and therefore needs line-of-sight? It's not really quite the same thing. I got the tranzport so I can work in another room of the house and it works right through the walls and allows track arming, volume control, and lots of other essential features.

I think I was unclear. Apple Remote is a software program that allows you to remotely control any other computer via airport or ethernet. It works flawlessly.

Oh are you talking about Remote Desktop? So you're controlling your main DAW with a laptop in another room and it works over your wireless network right? That probably has a better range than the tranzport huh? On the other hand the remote desktop program is $100 more than the tranzport. Hmm.
If you could describe how you use it a bit better I would appreciate it. I still have time to return this tranzport I just bought so if there's a better option I'd like to explore that. Unfortunately the room I want to use it in is at the very end of the transmitters range so it kind of works on and of. Maybe another solution would be better.

1st off, you have to consider the expense of having a lap top to control your desk top. If that's not an issue, I would say the $200.00 + cost of Apple Remote is well worth it.melocoton wrote:Oh are you talking about Remote Desktop? Picture the ability to manipulate ALL controls of your DAW remotely, as if you were sitting right in front of it and the latency via airport is minimal.
Plus yu can check email, do simultaneous software updates of all your computer, (I have several) from one computer.

You can sorta record into clip slots
Just wanted to point out that you can actually record into clip slots in Session view with the Tranzport, just not very well or flexibly.
Instead of using it as a Mackie control surface, just use it as a wireless midi controller and use Live to assign its controls to do whatever you want.
I can't figure out a way to change tracks this way, but I can program the Tranzport knob to select the scene, and program a button to play/record the selected clip slot. So you could set it up, go to your instrument, and record some clips into a track. Ok, not a great solution but it is wireless and easy to set up.
I wouldn't have bought a Tranzport just to use with Live, but I already had one so I'm trying to get some mileage out of it while I wait for Ableton to add support for it.
