ABLETON LIVE 5 + GUITAR RIG 2 PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by anto » Thu Jan 05, 2006 5:31 pm

hi, hello to everybody, I have this problems:

I use a beringher perdalboard fbc1010

when I use guitar rig 2 as ableton plug in is not possible (as with all external plug ins) to assign the midi controls directly into GR2 (with the edit plug-in panel), you can onlly put midi assignments from the unfolded device parameters, but it displays not all of the GR2 parameters

this fact is a big problem: I can't control the GR2 looper (and the way to looping on the fly with guitars with Live seems me too muddy: there's no way to assigns undo, to cancel and to overdub on the same clip)

I would know:
- is possible to assign midi parameters dierctly into the plug ins (I think no!)

- is possible to select the parametes showed in the unfold device paramerers windows?

- I'll probably buy the Guitar rig2 original pedalboard. If I'll use Gr2 into Live as a plug in, may I control GR2 from his pedalboard, or it will work only with GR2 as a stand alone application?

- could be possible to use togheter Live and Guitar rig, but with guitar rig not as an internal plug in, in interactive way?

in other words: my wish os to use GR2 as a complex guitar tool, into Live as a song builder, possibly with a single pedalboard.

I'm also waiting for the possibility to put multiple assings to a single midi switch, and maybe to different tools (i.e.: shitch1 to control with a single tap the changing of a scene on Live, and at the same time the on off into a distortion box and an echo device on guitar Rig). It could me fantastic to do so....note: some multi fx (as the GT line of Boss) premit you to do this: you can assign up to 9 functions to control pedal, this is wonderful to control comlplex variatons without change the patch (you change only the things you want, not all the set up of a pach, good for CPU economy)

could anyone help me?
thanks
A :?: :?: :?: :? :? :?

Unfortunately I can't help you, but I can confirm your dilemma with MIDI learn. This does not work in GR2 in Live (MIDI learn in GR1 works fine). My workaround is to program my controls in standalone mode and save my bank, then load this bank in my Live plugin. Not an ideal situation to be sure. By the way, I also have the FCB1010 and it is a wonderful tool for controlling GR within live while controlling Live clips, and also I use the SooperLooper looping plugin (I am on a mac) for sound-on-sound guitar looping.

My BIG problem with GR2 + Live is that I cannot use my FCB1010 expression pedals, because this causes really nasty audio glitches (only iin Live). Therefore GR2 is currently useless to me, though I do love the sounds it can make.

I hope you can get your setup to function properly!

I'm sorry I didn't follow your second paragraph at first. It is possible to do what you suggest! In the scene you want to launch, make a blank MIDI clip in the MIDI channel controlling Guitar Rig. In the clip properties you will see that you can send Bank, Sub-Bank and Program Change commands (only the Program Change is needed for GR). Also in the clip envelopes you can send various MIDI cc comands, and I *think* that if you have GR set up to receive MIDI notes as switches (which is how I do it), you should be able to draw the appropriate notes into the piano roll.

So then when you launch a scene your guitar sound should change accordingly. I am just beginning to work some of this out, but it has great potential, especially with the LFO's, sequencers and envelopes in GR2. It is a very powerful way of using Live and I wonder how many people realize what we have going here. I really hope Ableton will develop these live performance features further, because this is what makes Live special, in my opinion.
