Live 5.0, Quicktime, MP3s, CODEC probs

Post by Steve_UK » Tue Feb 07, 2006 10:03 am

Hi all.. hope you can help me.

I have searched on the topics in the subject line but can find no definitive answer to this problem so I would like to ask the question again.

I am running Live 5.0 to mix MP3 files which have been legally downloaded from www.djdownload.com. Recently when attempting to drag some files into Live I get a 'codec' error. Upon further investigation (this site mostly) I have discovered that Live uses Quicktime to play the files within the application. To test the theory I attempted to play the files using QT directly and got a 2048 error. The files play fine in Realplayer, Windows media player and Winamp. If I play the files back and then re-record using an MP3 encoder set to CBR the files will be recognized although the sound quality takes a hit.

From what I have learned from this forum, it may be because these files are encoded using VBR rather than CBR (320k bit rate).

My question is whether there is a fix a) for Ableton or b) for QT.

Failling this is there any way to configure Ableton to use a different MP3 player such as Realplayer ? This would solve my issue immediately,

many thanks

Steve

QT version 7.04.

I even uninstalled and then re-installed to force Ableton to use it's default player.
