20 millisecond gaps in output

Post by plazzTT » Sun Feb 19, 2006 11:59 pm

I've just started using ableton, and I'm getting this problem on the two PCs I've tried it on.

One is Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB RAM.
The other is P4 3.2Ghz HT, 512MB RAM.

I'm using no special soundcard or hardware, just the onboard sound.

There are often these glitches, or gaps, in the output. I've uploaded a sample.

The gaps are about 20-25 milliseconds long, and seem to happen about every 2.3 seconds.

I had about 20 tracks loaded, but only one was playing, and I had no effects or filters applied at all. I made sure to close any other apps running in the background. I was using "Re-Pitch". It makes no difference if I have HQ on or off, or if I have "RAM" on or off. The CPU is only around 10-15% (confirmed by Windows Task Manager)

This problem doesn't happen all the time either, very annoying though!

Any ideas?

get the asio4all drivers

you'll probably get a bit better performance if you disable hyperthreading on your p4

Thanks, those asio4all drivers seem to have made a huge improvement.
