One more week to wait for 5.2 bug fix version ?
So we've hit the last full week of Feb 2006 and we still don't have a confirmed release date for 5.2.
Is the bug fix release still going to ship in Feb 2006 as anounced last month ?
James.

still on 5.0.0, too scared to go to 5.0.3. Perhaps the Abes have something up their sleeve, they definately have a community of anxious musicians and producers up their arse! They will stick to their word.... err.. i hope.
no prevailing genre of music:

why are you scared? Go for it, if it doesn't work for some reason you can always still use 5.0. It's not like 5.0.3 installs over your existing version, it's just a folder you drop into you hard drive. I have 5.01, 5.02 and 5.03... Just because i haven't gotten around to deleting the old versions, guess ill go do that now....glu wrote:still on 5.0.0, too scared to go to 5.0.3.

There have been Dev versions of Macintel machines for quite some time + The New Imac has been out for some time now . . .timothyallan wrote:So they have to wait till the macintels ship, then they physically get one. Then in a week they modify all the code so it works on the new machine. Then they release the patch, all within 2 weeks? Sounds like a recipe for disaster. 5.2 will be very interesting.
I'd rather they make a proper 5.2 and wait 2 weeks than get a crappy one today + "Live 5.2 is expected to be available, as a download, in February 2006."
Notice it says Expected , not promised .

I'm guessing they had access to a dev machine a while back, otherwise how could they confidently announce a release onto a platform they hadn't even touched?
that would be a very odd move, I don't think they would make a big statement at NAMM if they hadn't even started. So, they must have already nearly finished during NAMM at least.
The announcement makes it seem like they had done all the work and it was finished/available as soon as there were machines for it.
It says it will be beta tested then fully released in Feb
So, what is holding them up?
Are there more bugs in the UB Alpha than they thought?
why is that holding up the PC version ?
I wont be buying a macintel any time soon - I just want a version with midi timing fixed and clip start issues removed. A lack of random audio glitches would be nice too.

I don't read that press release as "we are proud to announce that we will one day make a UB version, 5.2 will be released a week before Live 6"Ableton is pleased to announce Live 5.2, bringing native support for Apple's new Intel-Macs. One of Ableton's major development goals for 2006 is to deliver faster audio performance to Live users <snip> ...
Live 5.2 will enter beta as soon as the new Intel Core Duo-equipped MacBook Pro is available, and is expected to be released in February. Thanks to Live 5.2, early MacBook Pro buyers will be able to run Live immediately and enjoy substantially higher audio performance than on today's fastest Mac notebook.

Having two interfaces I have managed to get by without anyone bugfix being crucial or imperative. Only now that the program seems to be crippled by unwanted features and performing poorly under light strain do I really feel anxious about a bug fix and I find it long overdue. What I don't understand is why it is taking them so long on this one when they were so forthright about things in the past? Is it because they are concerned that rather than show their willingness to help it's customers over other companies- that it could potentially be construed that their software is always buggy?
Anyyway, everytime I post something like this about my theories I find out I am completely OT and the release is immediate.
so....
