Powerbook 17inch problem (not the last generation)

Hi Ihave a powerbook G4 17inch running with panther.

I have seen that there has been a problem with the last generations of powerbooks
The problem was that there was a bug in the audio core card. So that the music you played in ableton inmediately started to crack (like a cd that hangs).

Well apple had introduced a update for the problem. But they only talk about that the only was with the last generation of the powerbook, but I'm having the same problem so what do I have to do.
Buy Tiger for fixing the problem or is there any other solution for this problem.

It has nothing to do with my buffersizez or anything else.
