I would recommend this article to anyone interested in the details of relative performance of G4 processors vs Pentium4, and vs the IBM 970 which is supposed to be in PowerMacs before too long:

mac users have patience to wait

Interesting information, but too techy for a regular Mac muzo.... I use Macs for music in studio and on stage , but well aware of PC brutal power and choice of hardware components , honestly Mac are built from the same cheap PC hardaware spare parts- it's the uutside box design and comfortable OS that makes them first choice for creative people ( personally i prefer clear-simlicity of OS9 interface design to flashy OSX).
Lets wait and see , but while waiting , lets make good music with whatever computer and software we have at the moment-isn't it what it's all about?

Sometimes I wonder how many people actually make music and how many people just like to talk about it...

I don't know... I've sat in many studio sessions where sound engineers talk for hours on end about the merits of one piece of equipment versus another.

Knowing what tools are best suited for a job can be important, whatever the profession. Doesn't really matter who is right...
