Live does not recognize my controllers, day 2

Post by D DAS » Sat Mar 04, 2006 9:46 pm

this is going on day two

Ok I have tried it all and nothing worked so I am seeking your help.

Live will not recognize my Trigger Finger, uc33e, or oxy8

I am on a G5 mac using the latest Live 5

I have turned all the controllers off and on which usually works but it did not.

So then I restarted my computer which always works, no luck

so then I turned my computer off for a sec and still nothing

why oh why Live?

I have never had issues with Live so why now?

Does anyone know why this is happening?

I just tried to open reason to test them there, but Reason won't even open, a message says "Failed to Open Midi Support Library" Aplication can not run"

please help if you can

i've found that sometimes if i turn off XP services, i get too over zealous and disable the ones that govern the connection of my controllers.
basically the PC doesnt recognise them.
so what i do is renable all your services from msconfig.
then restart
then see if Live sees the controllers.

if after this point Live stlil does not see them, then you need to uninstall Live, reinstall and see if you can see them then.

have you installed anything else *funny* on the system that might be causing probs?

OK I'm assuming all of these devices were working at one point, you have used them all on this machine before right?

Did you look in Audio Midi setup? Occasionally I'll get USB problems relating to overload or other nonsense, but all of the things you mentioned solve that so.... audiomidi has a "scan devices" feature, and at least will let you know if OSX is recognizing the devices at all.

With OSX it's almost always a driver issue, or preferences, really no need to reinstall Live, just trash the preferences in the user/library/preferences folder marked Ableton.
I usually just move the whole folder to the desktop, to see if it helps then move it back if it doesn't.

Yes, Machinesworking, all the devices were working three nights ago, it was ;like an overnight thing. I think the only thing that was installed was an itunes update but I do not know for sure if I did that beofre or after the problem.

My audio midi set up on my mac recognizes none of the devices, so I guess that makes it a driver problem?
However it's weird, if my mac is asleep it will wake up if I turn one of the controllers off an on, so it must recognize it's there.

I emailed the Abes and the heads over @ propeller heads seeing how this problem is affecting both apps.

This sucked, I usually use my two days off to work on music, it was a most unmotivating weekend :-(

I will try what you said machinesworking, thanks for the input

Ah, iTunes update. Herein lies the rub....I don't know what they are doing, and though my problem was much dissimilar to yours....

After I installed the last iTunes update, all of my warped tracks were not readable by Ableton. Probably my fault for keeping my mp3s and their warp file in my iTunes folder for ease of navigation, but it must have overwritten something in there.

I feel for you, but the above poster seems to make sense, see if OSX is seeing the devices as a starting point for troubleshooting.
