The most over-rated music artists

Post by Chris J » Wed Mar 08, 2006 11:17 am

You get blood pressure when you read or hear praises about them, now's your time to list 5 or 10 at the most, artists or bands you feel are way over-rated.
No DJs please, they are over-rated by definition

Nirvana
Daft Punk
Jim Morrisson
The Clash
the next big thing if it's not me

huh ? sales speak for every over rated artists, you wouldn't have heard about them otherwise. How did they get to sell so much in the first place though ?
media over-rating perhaps.

I'll add coldplay twice too

There is no such thing as a overrated artist. Everyone wants recognition for there work right? Also a bit of cash to do said work hmm? People who say an artist is overrated need to get off there ass and get to work.

more objectionably, how do you determine what is the correct amount of rating for any given artist? Only then can you determine if they are over, under or perfectly rated.

Clearly using your own personal bias as a system for rating artists isn't fool proof since there are apparently plenty of musicians that you do not like that a lot of others do. Just because you feel that DJs are talentless hacks or whatever doesn't mean that other people cannot understand what they do and appreciate their work and skills for what it is worth.

lol, this is the ableton forum pal - not the mensa one. Its pretty obvious its a subjective question, so save your wishy washy armchair philosophy for another place.

nirvana, jim morrison over rated ? Anyone who dies from misadventure is not an over-rated artist, by default.

U-motherfucking-2 have got to be whipped within a nanometre of their lives, they are -FAKE- they are -HYPOCRITS- they think they can affect world peace by charging everyone up the ass for their rubbish trite tunes and gate crashing every pseudo intellectual political shin dig full of middle aged suits and warlords

METALLICA - lars ulrich in particular, for spearheading the corporate clampdown on the free movement of music and information. For snitching on 600,000 of his t-shirt buying, concert going fans.

Babyshambles - good call, just a fake brit-whatever-you-want-to-call-it-pop band set up to capture the hearts and minds of a slew of cd and mp3 buying toffs with coke habits who wish they were a little more left of centre

Coldplay
The Beatles
Artic Monkeys
Babyshambles
Kaiser Chiefs
James Blunt (the c**t)
Franz Ferdinand
Gorillaz
Hard-Fi
Oasis
The Strokes
Richard Ashcroft
Green Day

basically any band that those who watch the Brit awards or read NME think are any good - mediocrity is not genius.

yeah, I know, it's just a stupid way to spit my venim. To send back all the crappy hype I get from the medias regarding a few selected artists.
Dead artists often get over rated. Jim Morrisson or Kurt Cobain would be the first to admit they're over-rated.
I didn't say DJs are talentless hacks, they just don't fit the bill here.
I was refering to people who create stuff with musical instruments, rather than play records.
If a DJ releases a record of his own stuff, then he's not releasing it as a DJ, is he ?

Oasis (the hype's gone now, what a drag it was in the 90's)
