Reaktor Session versus Mac OSX ?
Has anyone got Reaktor Session to work in Live, ( or to work at all ) using Mac OSX?
I upgraded from Dynamo to Session because it was supposedly compatible with OSX. Supposedly supporting all the Windows formats, and in addition VST, AudioUnits, etc.
Being a virtual instrument and VST effects junkie, I couldn't wait to get my hands on some additional sound processing stuff in Ableton Live, Logic, Reason and any other of my current addictions.
Other than the extreme pain in trying to register the software that I ordered directly from the publisher ( NativeInstruments ), and feeling like I'm guilty of being a thief until proven innocent ...
What really sucks is that after two days of trying to get it installed and registered, it bombs with an "Unexpectedly Quit" error. All I really want to do is take a quick listen to some of the sounds that I patiently waited to pay for ...
I have sent the crash logs to them ... It might be my setup ( but I doubt it ). My suspicion is that it is another case of software that might not be "ready for prime-time". But, that remains to be seen. - I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, unless I hear that others may be having the same symptoms -
Ah - to be on the bleeding edge -
Anyone have any experience here? - Thanks -

Okay - I've been waiting patiently for NativeIntruments to return my "call"
I rarely get aggravated about things ... but at this point, maybe warnings are in order ... DON'T GO ANYWHERE NEAR THIS THING -
Maybe it works fine on Windows machines; I could try it on my Windows box, but then I would have to fight the registration hassles and try to convince NI that I am a legal, paying customer of theirs ...
Ableton guys - since you're both in Germany, would you please "walk over" there and tell these guys that the way you keep customers is by responding to their questions and needs.
I think at this point, I would have a lot more satisfaction taking a hundred dollar bill ( or a hundred euros ) and just burning it - at least there would be some finality to the act, and I could get on with my life ...
Okay - I feel as though I've been ripped off - End of Rant -

Okay - The threads on the NI site indicate a known problem with M-Audio devices/drivers using Session - I downloaded the latest version ... it still dies an ugly death. At least they are aware of it ... Not ready for prime time in the OS X world ( but what else is new ?? Patience is a virtue ).
NI will probably get things worked out in the long term ...
By definition, the bleeding edge implies blood ...
I'll give them some time to work things out ( I have no choice ) - but for those of you who would invest prematurely ... only fools rush in ...

RS doesn't work yet
1.0.1 is better, but still no AUs, can't get it to work with live, etc. etc.
Has cool sounds, though - when exported/ imported to live, it sounds great.
Being a 1st time NI user, after hanging out in their forums, it seems like this is what they do - no qa, then starting to release all sorts of updates. I would wait a couple more months before I'd buy.

i use absynth myself and have never had problems with it, but i've heard horror stories about mac users and n-i software. reaktor in particular. it sounds like a nifty program that's capable of many cool things, but i wont touch it. it's almost like mac support is an afterthought with n-i. maybe absynth is the exception because the people they bought it from were mac only developers. they tend to release their windows versions way before the mac versions, and when the mac version finally do arrive, they're riddled with bugs. my few dealings with their support department haven't returned with that strong a recommendation either. don't expect a response within a week.
all that said, i will be handing them a benjamin for my absynth upgrade in a few weeks, so i guess they're still getting paid.

I still haven't gotten a response from NI on the ongoing situation ...
I guess I'll play the waiting game.
No AU support is still an issue, but any support on a piece of software that:
A: doesn't work
B: sits on my hard drive with "authorization" that I'm afraid to even touch to try to get it to work without some "guidance" from the developers ...
It gives me a bad feeling ...
I, too, use Absynth ( in Mac OS-9 ) ... they are talking about the upgrade that works in Mac OSX ... I'm ready to go there in an instant, but with my experience with Session, I'm really hesitating -
Native Instruments has some impressive software ( when it works ), but to pay upfront to be a beta-tester really sucks -
Anyone who has dealt with them should agree that they need to get their act together to support both the Windows and Mac communities simultaneously before release. Make good on their promises, or please, don't even promise them at all.
Fool me once ....
