key assignment not working on most keys

Post by al_tourettes » Wed Mar 15, 2006 8:20 pm

Hello...I've just started using ableton 5.03 and have a live set i made in ableton 4 where there were key assignments to control mute on/off on tracks using the letters Q,W,E,R and so on. On ableton 5 only the letters I and E actually do what they're supposed to and when i press the other letters the KEY button in the left hand side of the screen flashes purple and nothing happens.
Numbers 1-9 function in the way that i want in that when press they act like buttons to switch each track on or off but i have lots of tracks in the set and i need to be able to use as many keys as possible. Is there something in the preferences that tells ableton to use all the keys for any function or is this a bug in live 5??? cheers....

Make sure the 'keyboard' button isn't illuminated when you are trying to assign keys. The 'keyboard' button is in the righthand corner of the screen, and by 'keyboard' I mean a piano keyboard, not a computer keyboard. The 'keyboard' button allows you to use the computer keyboard to play soft synths. A handy feature, but it can throw you off if you're trying to assign keys because there is no dialog box to tell you what's up.
