Major weirdness last night - File menu shaded + unselectable

Post by Sales Dude McBoob » Sun Mar 19, 2006 3:02 pm

While recording a band during the day, midway through the session I stopped recording to save the set. When I clicked on File to go save the set, all of the options in the File menu were shaded out and unselectable. I couldn't save. I couldn't do anything in that menu. In a slight panic I did a quick check to see if I was doing anything weird (turned off armed tracks, clicked the red goto arrangement button, clicked the overdub button, etc.). But I wasn't doing anything unusual.

The band recorded another 15 minutes of jams and luckily Live had snapped out of it by the end and I was able to go to the File menu and save the set. Thank goodness for that! It was sort of a big deal becuase the whole point of the session was to improv songs and we had just done a bunch of stuff that could never be repeated.

Seriously... it was a scary moment 8O

Why aren't you using 5.0.3?

If your sig is correct, that is.

I'm pretty sure thats a problem that was fixed in 5.0.3. I could be wrong...

I was using my G5. I just updated my profile because I just jumped through some OSX hoops. I went from 10.3.9 > 10.4 > then mistakenly to 10.4.5 > then back down to 10.4 > then finally landed on 10.4.2.

I am using 5.0.3 on the G5.

The same issue happened again later in the evening. Yesterday was a super productive day. Recorded a podcast, recorded 28 minutes of drums + guitars + synths + vocal jams, made a soundtrack for a 4 minute film that will be shown in a film festival on Monday, and I almost finished my taxes.

But I had the same problem at 1AM trying to finish the soundtrack. I had to quit and relaunch Live to render it.

Greyed out menus

This problem is still not fixed in 5.0.3 - usually happens after doing a "Save Live Set As...", happened A LOT in 4.1.4!!!!

I found a workaround to get the menus back, by toggling the Audio Interface to "No Device" and then back to the audio interface. Do my save etc and then restart Live to get a clean instance of Live again.

Live 5.0.3/ G5 / OSX 10.4.5
