I lost my best sessions!

Post by ikke » Tue Mar 21, 2006 2:37 pm

whoopzz.. i think I made a mistake  ... kinda lost some of my tracks
When I make a backup of a project in Reason or another sequencer, I just save the project under a different name. So, I did this with a few of the Ableton sessions and now.... all of a sudden, Live doesnt find some clips (wav files). .... What the ...?! And I always save the set as "self contained"

What can I do to correct this?
Or am I screwed?? :?

Thanks in advance!

Try to manually relocate the samples. And re-save it as self-contained.

Hi,

If you first perform a "save as" for the set, giving it a new name (liek *newset*) and saving it in a new location, and then hit "save as self contain", the folder named "*newset* Sounds" should contain all the sounds in the set.

Is that what you did, in the same order ?

Kind regards,

thanks, Ableton
But thats what I did.. :(
Project A was self contained. (All my projects are in seperate folders, btw)
I saved Project A in a new folder under a new name (both folder and project got a new name). I then saved the new session as self contained again. Closed the session. Opened it again some time later and .... :( ...... some wavs were missing.. Actually, a lot of wav files were and still are missing
... I have no idea ... But I need them back!

Hi,

If you did so, there should be a folder containing all your samples along your set file. So even if Live doesn't find the sounds, you should be able to manually point them, by browsing to that folder.

Best,

yeah but as i said before i think Live renamed them... I have searched all my drives (via windows search option) and no files came up
and obviously i dont know how each clip should sound, if i do it manually, ill mess up my project
but thanks for your help :)

Hi,

Isn't there a folder named "*yourset* Sounds" just at the same location where you saved that set ? Is it empty or does it contain files ?

it contains wav and asd files

map "the poetry of soul" contains: "the poetry of soul.als" & a folder named: " the poetry of soul Sounds" which has wavs and asd files

Hi,

Then, when you try to open the session, and it asks for files, you should point to the folder you mentioned, and I think Live will find all the files it needs there.

I think we are not on the same level here :?
... I cant open the original sessions. The backed up session (that will be the last, most recent saved session) opens without a problem. the session that used to be the back up, wont open. Files are missing and they are nowhere... searched everywhere! Both automaticly and manually

One side note, might be important.. but I think all the freezed tracks are missing. But Im not a 100% sure.

Odd? .... I think so

I use 5.03 by the way. If it wasnt such a huge cpu hog, this wouldnt be a problem  ... cause i back up and consolidate all clips so that live becomes stable again .... I want to keep the original so a backup is needed

Dear Ableton,

Is this a bug? :)

Sincerely yours,
