macbook pro 7200rpm internal HD track count...

Post by AdamJay » Fri Apr 07, 2006 2:48 am

was doing some tests on the 7200rpm optional internal HD on my MacBook 2ghz today.

at 1024 buffer
44.1khz
Live 5.2b10

MacBook Pro 2ghz
2GRM Ram
7200rpm internal drive

i was able to run up to
98 unique Stereo 16bit, 44.1khz audio (.aif) tracks
without dropouts, issues, lags, etc.
the 99th track gave me a drop out.

pretty damn impressive. no plug-ins or anything, this was just an HD track count test. i think i'd run out of CPU before i ran out of disk bandwidth. running these 98 tracks knocked at about 44% on the Live CPU meter.[/b]

7200rpm

Post by delag » Fri Apr 07, 2006 1:37 pm

i was just wondering that this morning...

if it's possible to put in a 7200 rpm drive in the macbooks
is thAT something you did yourself, or u could choose a diffrent drive when u bought it as an option?I looked at the options and didn't see it

while i'm at it is it worth the 300 extra for that extra 1.16(from 2 to 2.16)cpu?

i'm reaaaaly starting thinking seriously about getting one of those macbook

I have the 2.16 Ghz version, and i doubt there is any perceivable difference between the 2.16 Ghz and 2.0 Ghz. The best thing about the 2.16 Ghz version is that you don't have to wait for it - you can pick it up in store (assuming you want the faster HD).

The trick is to get the 2.16 version with an educational discount - $240 off!

I'm super happy with mine. It took a few tries, but I got a "good one". And FWIW, Live is oh-so-snappy!

Good luck.

Joe.

ha ok...thanks..i was curious...seems a lot 300$ extra for that little imporvement

that means i have to be a student, or find a student that buys it and sells it to me after?I guess that works in canada as well

It would be interesting if someone could do a track count on a macbook with a 5400 rpm drive for comparison.
