dj track/file quesition

Post by accdntly » Tue Apr 11, 2006 12:30 am

hi. all of my tracks in the browser are only listed by song name. should i manually fix this in my hd so artists name is first? any quicker alternatives? thanks.

you can get as complicated as you want, i've got thousands of tunes warped now and i find it easier to have lots of folders.

a folder to select the genre, then the key of the music, then finally a folder named after the tempo, artist and then song name, that folder then contains the original track, loops cut from it and anything else.

oh with such navigation system it will take alot of time to navigate right song, imagine this: A->140->PvD->The Other Side->Deep Dish Remixes Oh dear!

i dont have a seperate file for the tempos, they are just attached to the song names....

but i hear you!

finding the tunes im after takes tiwce as long as when i was flicking through record boxes... but then i have got ten times more tunes than i could ever carry around on vinyl.

also by structuring things in this way you often find beautiful mixes that you never thought would go together.

1. what techniques/maybe internet sources do you use to find right song keys?
2. Recently i used such catalog system:
folder names were just like (for example):
129.A.Deep_Dish-Say_Hello(Original_Mix) which means: 129 bpm, Key A, Song Deep_Dish-Say_Hello(Original_Mix)
So it was easier to scan through the songs library

to find the right key i just potter around on a keyboard, sometimes a guitar if i can be bothered to tune the thing!

i find the guitar easier to tune with though.

as for catalog systems i find them to be one of the most frustrating things with live.
i keep thinking i should change it, maybe do this or that, but it would take weeks to rename all my tracks and i would much rather be playing.

finding key

if you don't want to be bothered with finding the key yourself, try a program called Tonart. It works pretty well as far as I can tell... free too
