pops and crackles not m-audio or 5.x related

Post by boatie » Fri Apr 21, 2006 6:36 pm

hello,

I have started experiencing crackles and dropouts using 4.1.4 which to the bom knowledge is stable?

definitely not corrupted files

have m-audio firewire but not using it at present, just the on board soundcard

powerbook g4, 1meg ram, 800 mhz, 4 years old

mainly using audio rather than midi files

suspect my hard drive may be on the way out, anyone got an opinion or test I could do? cpu usage on Live gauge reading 20-25% but Activity monitor says more like 40-55%

cheers!

Hi Boatie...

In my experience, the pops and crackles are actually the result of other applications "running in the backrground".. Check and see have you recently installed any net shit?

problem seems to have stopped.

think now it may have been related to slightly dodgy PSU.

On a nother note , can anyone recommend a way of testing soundcards ? is it dealt with by the video card on a powerbook G4, or is it a separate piece of hardware?

cheers
