buzz from new external HD...is this a ground loop?

i just got a seagate 160gig USB external HD. i have not plugged it into the laptop yet, but when i set it up on my desktop, all of a sudden i have an annoying buzz in my right monitor speaker.

i can't plug everything into the same power strip, so i chained another into my main one. still a buzz.

is this a ground loop? or is there something else going on?

Yo yo yo

I get this buzz to but totally unrealted to a HD

here's what happens

Say I have a bunch of tracks going to a return track I created - the monitor is set to [in]

So I want to sample some loops from vinyl and some times I forget to set the audio in to [no input]

So when I play the record I can hear the monitored playback and the real time playback - doubley because of the latency

so, I'll flip the audio in to [no input] and when I do that I get this horrible buzz

that's how it happens every time - this did not happen before 5.2

this might be unrelated so i'll start a new thread, but yeah I get that buzz and it's annoying
