I/O AudioVisual - 2 new tracks!!

Post by ethios4 » Thu May 04, 2006 11:57 pm

Here's 2 brand new tracks, begun in Live 5/completed in Live 6!

Junkyard Gospel
Finding the Sacred <<< Sorry, I removed the link because I'm working on getting this signed :D

And here's 2 older tracks done in Live 5...
Little Nemo's Remix
White Rabbit Remix

2 AudioVisual tracks
Alameda
Mystic

Audio produced solely in Live. Video beat-synced using MIDI clips in Live.
These are fairly hi-res movies, so they will take a little while to load.

Enoy!!

Nope, seem to be loading ok...

Pretty cool, i'd like to get into doing stuff like that. I work as a video editor so it would be good to combine it with my music stuff. What software are you using?

For the video we triggered MIDI clips in Live that control the playhead in Resolume, so that the video playback in Resolume could be beat-synced to the audio track. We recorded 10 different takes of video for each audio track, and edited them in Final Cut Pro.

Basically, the MIDI clips in Live are 1-4 measure loops that send a CC message to Resolume, where it is mapped to the playhead. This allows for the playhead to loop on the beat.

These were our first attempts at studio-produced videos, rather than totally on-the-fly production as we have done in the past. This technique worked pretty well....it's fast, and allows for some pretty cool techniques. A new version of Resolume (v3) will be coming out soon that has the beat-syncing capabilities built in....no need to use MIDI clips in Live for simple beat-syncing. Almost all paramters can be beat-synced in v3, which is pretty incredible.

Of all the VJ software we've used, we find Resolume to be the best for us. It can do so much, and they are developing it in a good direction. I wish Ableton would pair up with the Resolume people....it's much more powerful than Arkaos, IMO.

If you're interested in incorporating video live, I would recommend

Thanks for the info!
Just been having a look at some of the stuff on those forums, i'm definately gonna get into that shit. I use final cut pro as well, but I notice that Resolume is pc only. I've had a mess around with Arkaos but it seems a bit rough around the edges. Maybe it's amazing, i've only used it for 5 mins. Any idea what the best Mac software is? I do have a pc as well, but It's not hooked up - I was gonna sell it to help towards buying a macbook pro.

We've been mostly using PC software for VJ'ing because we like Resolume so much, but Modul8 is very nice also.

VidVox also make some good VJ software for Mac....we used VDMX for awhile. We had problems getting video to look good in VDMX though, which is when we switched over to PC/Resolume.

Definitely check out Modul8....

Glad you're feeling inspired :D

Wow, I just checked out VidVox's site again....they have Grid2 out for PC now...it is the best software we've found yet for AV clip triggering....if you get the video codec right. You might check out Grid Pro...it's Mac only, and looks pretty sweet.

EDIT - Vjamm is now our current (Jan 2007) fave for AV triggering....the best by far!!! It's expensive, but also the only software we've found that can do rapid accurate AV triggering.

I use Quicktime 6.5.2 for most movie files.

We're always trying to find the best codec for streaming video on the web, without paying for a streaming server, and sometimes the codecs we use cause problems for people. I'm surprised VLC won't play it.

I'll look at more later tonight....definitely want these videos to work;

no I dont know if VLC wont play it, just wont stream anything - so I didnt have time to download a 42 MB file but would have had a look if it would stream - Quicktime really fucked with my soundcard - weird stuttering shit and I hated it - it was a very annoying program on PC

VEry inspiring! I really dig the music and the videos. I really like the sample break with the man and woman back into the song. Very kool!

Anyone using Edirol motion dive .tokyo

It seems like a good starter package for a beginner>

Forge : I don't know what's up with the streaming...I'm sure it's a codec issue though. The same videos are up on our myspace page as well, streaming like a mountain spring.

Sarrass : I dig the visual style with that music...trance-inducing :) nice!

dbolt : We haven't used MotionDive in at least a couple of years, so I don't know where that software stands now. You would probably do well to stop in at
VJ Central and
VJ Forums
and see if there's a review of MotionDive.tokyo. Lots of info on those sites...
