HELP: How to import raw data from Mini Disc (MD) ?

Post by fmass » Wed May 10, 2006 1:12 pm

i found old "raw" recordings on MiniDisc (MD) & wud love to have it looped in Live
i think they were done with a tascam 564 ... looooong time ago
i wud like to avoid going from a MD player into my firewire card and then hardisk
 i was wondering if there's a kind of USB/firewire Mini Disc reader I could use to import them

thx in advance for any info

Some MDs used to have some kind of optical out (or was it in?), you might be able to sort something out with this but I'd imagine it'll cost you in cables/some kind of adapter etc. Get a half-decent cable from the MD to your card and you probably own't notice any difference provided you set up a decent output/input level and you'll get a more useful cable in the bank to boot.

I don't think so, Fmass.

In order to do a digital dump from a mini disc, the MD recorder would have to be capable of recording in HI-MD mode. The disc used would also have to be a HI-MD disc.

Your best bet is to track down the machine it was recorded on (on eBay or something) and get it into your computer from there with your audio interface.
