optimizing Windows XP for Motu 828 ?????

Post by intellijel » Sat May 13, 2006 3:43 pm

I have a motu828 (the first one) and it only works with my PC if you use the old drivers.
I have a P4 2.6gHz with 1gb of ram running WIndows XP pro SP2.

I have set the audio buffer ont he Motu 828 to 128 samples (if I go lower I hear too much glitch)

However, at any setting if I am using more than 50% CPU in Ableton Live, I get gltiches and stutter. Ever since I installed this sound card it feels like I get worse performance out of ableton and a higher latency than with my M-Audio FW410.

Why is this?

What should I do to optomise my system for ableton/motu??
Could it be a firewire problem with SP2?

cheers,

Hi,
did you check motu for newer drivers?

First: Tune your system with www.musicxp.net and
second: uninstall SP2 because of this (MotU FAQs):

I'm having trouble with my FireWire interface under Windows XP Service Pack 2, why?
Due to issues with its FireWire implementation, we recommend that users with FireWire interfaces do not install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP at this time (October 13, 2004).
If you have already installed Service Pack 2 and are experiencing difficulties using your FireWire interface(s), you can remove Service Pack 2 as follows:
Go to the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
Locate Service Pack 2 and remove it.

and then have fun with Live
hope you can fix your problem

Thanbks for the reply!
I had been wondering about removing SP2. However, my version of windows came with SP2 pre-installed (there is not the option to remove it via add/remove programs).

There seems to be some hotfixes for the firewire problem but I am not sure if that solves all the issues.

cheers,

I've been having the same problem since I swapped my internet PC over with my older but trusty music PC, the newer PC despite having a better processor is absoltuely terrible at running with my 828mkII, and the noise is deafening. BAH.
