..:: Tarekith ::.. "Dark Skies"

Post by Tarekith » Sun May 14, 2006 10:53 pm

Another new downtempo song from me, thanks to all the crappy weather
lately! This is the first tune I've done on my new studio set up,
since I switched to my laptop for all audio work, and sold my UAD-1
card and 1820m.

I'm using Sonalkis plugs ins for all the EQ and compression in this
one, and a Motu Ultralite has replaced the 1820m nicely. Kinda
surprised how well the Motu works with XP to be honest.

Ableton Live helped me get all the loops at teh right tempo, as well as fixing the odd mis-timed note that I played. I also used it to change the groove of some of the guitar loops.

The drums are all from Machinedrum UW, except for the ride like cymbal
I use as a crash. The guitar parts are a combination of me on my
guitar, and some loops from sample CDs all sliced and rearranged.
Bassline and pads are from the Virus TI, which works just as well on
my laptop as it did on my desktop, whew!

Here's a short, 128kbps MP3 preview:

Here's the full song, 320kbps, prewarped for use in Ableton Live:

Enjoy, and let me know what you think!

Yes, i played most of the guitars, all the upfront stuff. There's some fingerpicking samples in the backgroup that are from a sample CD.

Oops, didn;t see your other question. The guitar was an Ibanez S540 into a Line 6 Pod XT, then into my Motu Ultralite. I use SX for that type of stuff.

I just wanted to say me and my m8 cryptic loved your downtempo mix that you had posted on the forum a few months ago. It was lovely...My only complaint was that it was too short (Cause I was well into it and I wanted to hear more).
Any chance of another mix for us to listen to soon? And out of curiosity are you mixing in Live or just on the decks ?
Anyway Keep doing your thing..we are feeling it. Big Up
:)

Thanks Kinetic. I mix 100% with Live, rarely even turn the turntables on anymore in fact. I'd love to do another downtempo mix asap, the hardest part is finding enough song to fill up a whole mix. Well, enough songs that I REALLY like that is :) Definitely got plans to do another one asap though, and I'll of couse post it here when I'm done. Glad you enjoyed the last one!
