Reason 3.0 Matrix issue

Post by boaf » Fri May 26, 2006 9:02 pm

If anyone is familiar with Reason:
I've got a Combinator with a Malstrom, some effects and a Matrix (controlling volume levels of the malstrom for gating) rewired into live but when I play it back the matrix doesn't gate the volume for some reason. I can hear the malstrom as if there wasn't any gating on it. Any ideas?
Thank you!

Clarification: I have the Combinator sound rewired into live. If I play the sound directly with reason (into live) it gates. If I use MIDI to control the pad (with live) it doesn't. And the midi notes are long...like 9 or 10 measures of just two notes. So the notes aren't controlling the gating either, just so you know. :P

And while I am here, can anybody explain how to get knobs on a midi controller to work with knobs in reason through Live?

I tried to replicate your situation and was able to gate the Malstrom from Live with no problems. To get gating in my case I either had to activate the matrix manually or start playback in Live so that playback would also start in Reason, thus activating the matrix.

Another option would be to add a Subtractor to your combi and wire CV from its LFO into the Malstrom's level mod input. Use a sync'd square waveform at 1/16 note rate. The gating isn't quite as defined as with a matrix, but the CV from the Sub is on all the time. On my end, I can't see any reason why the matrix wouldn't work for gating, though. Hope that helps.

Well, when stuff starts playing the Matrix automatically runs...at least, it should anyway.

Scratch that, it's working now. I don't have the slightest clue as to what it could have been doing before. Thanks for your input anyway!
