Cure for render clicks?

Post by ikke » Sat May 27, 2006 12:44 pm

How can I stop the nasty clicks when rendering? I can handle every bug but this I have no control of.. :( The clicks appear random. Sometimes even pops appear when there are no plugins inserted :? :!: :?:  :x 8O :o What the heck?! Does somebody know a cure?
Thanks

set the buffer as high as it'll go before you render

Do you mean the latency of the audiocard?

I find that if I put -all- audio clips in the arrange view into ram, it gets rid of the clicks. It's the ONLY solution thats worked for me so far.
Good luck.

buffer as in, go to preferences and adjust the buffer so it has like, 10 million samples or whatever is the highest setting

If I put all the samples into the ram, the ram then holds 1.15gb of data... Which is too much because Ableton will hang at 26% while rendering. The project is this big because I need to consolidate all the clips to get my performance and stability inside of Ableton Live back. :? It seems that no matter what, Im always screwed :(
I think I will switch back to Pro Tools :( ... Hey, wait a minute! :o Pro Tools! Maybe if I slave Ableton Live to Pro Tools and render Live´s session via the Pro Tools´ engine the nasty pops dissapear 8O 8O .... .... Get back to you in a giffy!

How do I run different channels from Live into different channels from PT? The main out (mix L - mix R) work but the remaining channels dont (bus 03 - bus 04) . I get no signal in Pro Tools. Any help?

EDIT: k, got it

Two solutions so far ....

The Cure 1)
Raise the Plugin Buffer Size to the max (in the prefs, plugin page), as well as your audiocard´s latency.
Render to the same samplerate and bitrate as the project (so that Live doesnt need to convert the rendered audio file)
Set "Create Analyze File" in the render page "on"
Consolidate clips as much as possible

The Cure 2)
Dont use VST and/or AU effects on busses ( * when an application is in rewire slave-mode it can use no vst, vsti and au! ), instead drop those plugins on the appropriate track(s) and bounce the track(s) when you´re ready tweaking and automating the plugin. Then slave Ableton Live to your host rewire application and render your session through that host. Route seperate tracks through vst, rtas, au as you desire.

well looks like you have to go to plan B.

1. Set up a new audio track.
2. Set it to resample and arm it.
3. Press rec and play.
4. Go have a coffe for 6 minutes :)

voila, no clicks :)
