Windows XP Service Pack 1 or 2 ?

Should I run Service Pack 1 or 2 for best performance and stability in Live 5.2? On Windows XP Pro.. Currently I have Service Pack 2 running, but Live crashes quite often, so Im thinking of reinstalling XP with SP1

In my experience, you're probably more likely to fix crashes by eliminating flaky VSTs than changing Service Packs.

"..vsts changing sp´s?" .. what do you mean by that?

I dont have a lot of vsts running by the way.. Just the ones I need.

Is there a list of plugins not to use with Live 5?

I just mean that you should look first to VSTs as causes of your crashes.

Changing SP is not gonna help your stability. I've never noticed and never seen anyone claim that SP1 is more stable that SP2 or vice versa.

I've seen a few claims along those lines saying that SP1 is more stable. In the end, it mostly came down to poor PC maintenance, etc. on the claimer's part.

i have sp2 and its ok

i have a set with WAVES & Native Instr. and its ok...most of the session

i have 1.5g RAM and P4 @ 2.8 ghz

you need to turn off some extra services which come with sp2.. like Virus Alert and stuff

That's another line of bullshit. Some companies such as the Props recommend you don't turn anything off.

The only things I change from a normal XP install is change processor scheduling to background services, move my paging file off my OS drive and turn off power management to the USB hubs. My system never crashes no matter what I throw at it. I dump my temp files and defrag once a day, and that's about it for maintenance.

well... you have to tweak your xp gentle. overdoing it will cause errors and other nasty behaviour
service alert, task schedular, messenger (which is not msn), automatic updates and my ATI services are disabled. Theres nothing wrong with disabling those services. System Restore and Remote Assistance utilities are disabled as well
.... according to digidesign you have to disable a lot more

Live 5 is just a buggy cpu hog, and that certainly isnt a line of bullshit

btw, I run Pro Tools 6.7, Reason 3.04 and Adobe Audition without any errors, crashes. They all run smooth

... With the same amount of plugins (and even more) (rtas + wrapped vsts).
I have a very stable, expensive system with enough ram and almost no ( ok maybe two ) cracks. XP is legal too.
Live 5 just blows in terms of stability and performance
