Live and VX pocket

I am having a hard time to record in live with my soundcard VX pocket 2 since the CPU goes all the way up and it cuts, crackles, etc...
I have an asus laptop computer with 128MB Ram, PIII 850 mhz, 20 GB and I am interested in buying a 512 ram for it but I have use it on a firends laptop at 512 MB RAM and the same thing happens

Any Idea of why LIVE stops and crackles so much, does the new version fix all this?

hi tjwett, it seems now is working perfectly, it must have been another of my f.... windows problems. My friend is using it also on his laptop and it works great, amazing soung and great quality connection. Good choice

thanks for the info...i went and bought an emi 2|6 recently for more outputs but i'll keep the Vx in mind for the future if the USB thing gets to slow...

I'm about to buy a ASUS laptop. How are your experiences with it ? Are you still using the VXPocket and how is it performing when the load is high ?

I was told the VX pocket has a very high CPU consumption just by opening the ASIO driver. My MidiMan Quattro gives problems so I was looking at changing if the pocket worked well.

has no-one considered using the Hammerfall DSP interface for their laptop (ie. the cardbus version using the multiface)? It also has midi!

How, way cool. I tried an ASUS and COMPAQ today, and they both couldn't handle 10 tracks at the same time. I'm thinking I should go for a FlexATX case and a flatscreen. Did you build it yourself or bought it somewhere ?

The number of stereo trax w/o fx u can playback depends largely on the data transfer rate from your hd to cpu. Remember you are streaming 20 stereo tracks from disk here. Things to try:

-fast firewire drive (not sure if you get
better throughput than your built in drive)

-ram disk (available as 3rd party software
on PC), with loops in ram, i get more tracks
than i can use.

-system optimizations (you can find some information and links elsewhere in the Live forums, or at other audio sites)

-as you said, you could use a system supporting faster harddrive bus transfer, UATA/100 or SCSI.

Hello,

Some of our people use the ramdisk tool from cenatek (http://www.cenatek.com/product_ramdisk.cfm) with success.
It supports Win95, 98, Me, NT & 2000. But I'm not sure if Win XP too.

Has it occurred to anyone that harddisk performance would be so much less of an issue if Live supported mp3 files?
Or if Live itself buffered files in RAM.
Or both!
