Ableton Live 5 and the Axon? (Midi/Synth Guitar)

Hay all

Getting an axon midi guitar converter next week so i`m wondering if its possible to record 6 midi tracks (1 for each string) in live 5?

This is vital to guitar synth work as otherwise if I ran all 6 strings in 1 midi track when it worx out pitch bend for intonation or string bend or anything, the bend would effect every note/string being played and would cause an unusable recording :-/

Also, is it possible to route (im using an E-MU 1820m) those 6 tracks while playing and recording through a single VST intrument?
6 VSTs running together, 1 for each string would kill my pc, and its a pent 4 2.56gighrts :-/

Ok, been fiddling around for a bit and I "think" i`ve answered this but I could use a "yay!" or "nay " conformation on this, cheers

Ok,
I start by creating a total of 7 midi tracks, 1 for each string and one to run my VST.
I then set the input for each track as a seperate midi channel so tr1 is ch1 ect.
Set each tracks output to midi track 7.
I add absynth 3 as midi track 7s intrument.
Then "ctrl+clicking the track record" lets me highlight more than 1 track, hence record more than 1 so I do that for all 7 tracks.

This in theory (and having each string on the axon set to a diff channel) should alow me to record all 6 strings into seperate tracks and then they all bounce down through track 7 and absynth thereby alowing me to bend a string without it affecting the other strings and only have to have a single CPU hungry VST running for all the strings..... I hope heh.


Does this sound correct to the more enlightened than I?

i've been reading about this axon guitar...tell us if it really works as promised...i've been wanting to get into midi guitar but i know most of them suck

Ya they do suck, lower strings have more delay than higher strings and then theres all the ghost notes heh.

I`ll make a post when i`ve had a play with it for a few dats after I get it next saturday

I have a Roland Guitar MIDI and if you want to record pitch bend for each string you have to do something like this. Also your synth has to be setup to handle simultaneous MONO not POLY input. So you might have to add the synth to each track.

Oh yea. MIDI Guitar doesn't suck.

I`ve asked this on the terratecs axon board and a guy put the thought into my head that if i`m bouncing down to a single midi track which has the VST then wouldn`t the pitchbend then affect all the strings because its a single midi track?

What have you found with ya roland?

I've had ok results with a roland Gk pick-up routed into a Roland GI-20, then into live on a midi track using whatever synth I have going for the sound.

I like Reason for midi guitar also. Reason seems to have more useable presets and can be tweaked a little better for guitar triggering.


I haven't made to move to a peizo saddle/axon type controller yet. Though it has crossed my mind.

i don't have any personal experience, but I think a synth triggered by piezos would work much better than one of those divided pickups.

Hay, it seemsto me then by this board and axons that my choices are either 6 tracks and 6 VSTs which`ll alow pitchbending ect, better recognition/stopping ghost notes plus i`ll be able to set diff strings for diff sounds, inside the axon or with different VSTs.
That`ll be very cpu hungry but if it`s just for solo work and not every riff I write it might be ok.

The other option is to run the axon in common mode so all strings are sent out into 1 channel, turn pitchbend off and run through to a single midi track.
This`ll mean 1 VST and no string bends plus the axon wont have the option to auto-bend strings to accomodate for intonation and varius other things so it`ll send another note-on msg thereby giving me more ghost notes.
These`ll be short though as they`ll be sent note-off messages almost straight away, but there will be more of them.... :-/


And thats my choices, I think a combination of the 2 for my music`ll be the best way, single track for basic riffs and all 6 tracks for long winded solos.

Theres actualy a dissusion about that on theyre site, I think in the end it didn`t actualy make any difference

Hi all,

I have an AXON MKII and I record each string seperately on a midi channel. I send E and A to a bass synth in Reason via rewire and D/G/B/E to a more solo sound. Works great, you can even send the pick position to the synth as CC signal.

In the same time you can record the audio via a channel and send to Guitarrig for example. I can surely recommend it. Pls get in contact and lets discuss, so that we can get the max out of this.

PS: I do not have any problems with pickup but might be my play style.
