Newbie Install of Live
Newbie Install of Live
My copy of Live is being delivered today.
I have been using both the 2.03 and 2.1.1 demos.
In 2.1.1 I see there is a splash window where you can enter the unlock/challenge response info.....
So my question is this....is there any point at all in installing whatever version of Live comes on the CD or should I just use the serial number I get to unlock the 2.1.1 demo version.
I'm using Mac OS 9.2.2
Cheers

More info
OK...the package has arrived.
Obviously here in Australia the distributor has oldish stock because my brand new Live CD is labled "Live 1.5 installation disk".
However, on the shrinkrap on the box there is a sticker which says "free upgrade to version 2.0"
So, back to my first post.....is there any point installing the version on the disk...or should I just use my serial number with 2.1.1 demo version?
I am at the day job now so I can't install/use Live for at least 8 hours when I get home to the studio.
Thanks
Murray

Brilliant
Thanks very much Kleine.
Your advice was right on the money.
I followed your instructions to the letter and it has all gone well.
I've gone from 1.5 to 2.1.1 and everything is working....including the things I couldn't do in the demo like saving Live Sets.
Another Ableton success story

Go 2 first
Hey Red
Now that I am a newbie install expert
I would say
you have nothing to lose by installing 2.1.1 first.
2.1.1 does not update 2.0, its a seperate install in a seperate folder so you end up with a 2.0 Live folder and a 2.1.1 Live folder.
Ooops...of course I am relating to 9.2.2 and can't be certain that is what happens in OS X but, at a guess, I would say it will be the same on the point.
Anyway, when I first ordered Live I assumed (incorrectly as it turned out) that the CD I received would at least be 2.0.
On that assumption I emailed Alex of Ableton with basically exactly your question and he said I should just go straight to 2.1.1
The difference between the 1.5 serial number and the 2.0 serial number is more digits.
So in my case (described in posts above) I had the unlock 1.5 first so that I could then register with the 1.5 serial number before being given the longer 2.0 serial number which I needed to use 2.1.1.
Hope that helps/makes sense.
Good Luck

Typo in last post
"...I had to unlock 1.5 first ..."
