live freezing during live performances... sucks.

Post by jason » Mon Aug 11, 2003 6:14 am

i'm running live 2.1, although i've had this problem has been since 1.5, on my 800mhz ibook with 640mb of ram under OSX (10.2.6). the problem is live keeps deciding to take a shit during live performances. i've gotten to the point where i WILL NOT use it live anymore. very annoying & what i feel is a waste of money. i'm able to use reason 2.5 maxed, deck loaded with plugins etc... with no problems. yet live with just two clips and no effects almost always crashes. (with no other apps open) needless to say, this is rather embarassing in the live arena.

i would like to use the program for what it was designed to do, play live, but i just don't trust it anymore. i can't say i would recommend it to others at this point...

anyone else have this problem or any suggestions?

In my experience, Live runs a lot better on OS 9 than OS X. Don't know about Reason, I don't have it.

I decided not to work on osX with Live until ..... ! I stick to OS 9 only ! To much trouble and furthermore with the us-428 osX drivers ! on os 9 no major trouble so far

Ditto that, not even using OSX for any audio app yet. Live, Logic, Reason etc. Live shows with Live 2.03/Tibook500/512Mb/OS9.2.2/Hammerfall DSP/Multiface going swimmingly.

cheers

Hello Jason,

Please let me know what you mean with "live keeps deciding to take a shit during live performances" to check what´s the problem here. Are there any specific actions which cause Live to crash for you? Which audiointerface do you use?

Best,
Ch. Kleine

Ch. Kleine,

basiclly, what i mean is the application freezes. sometimes it locks into a loop and sometimes it starts skipping or spiking the sound. eitherway, without somesort of backing track or other saftey net to fill the dead air, you look really bad. i just had a pretty big radio concert broadcast the other night and i wanted to use live for the performance but i didn't and won't anytime soon. i've been burned too manytimes by it. reason works just fine in live situations even pushing the cpu to 60 or 70%.

i don't understand why live is doing this. my clips are kept pretty short in length, i don't run tons of vst's if any and have never pushed the cpu load in live past 35% at any given live show.

my computers specs are listed at the beginning of the thread. i would love to use the program for what it was designed to do but i have to be able to depend on it in order to do that.

thanks,

This is a serious problem I have as well.

I'm on a powerbook , internal audio 10.2.6

Didn't have these problems before in OS X

My disk is pretty full, perhaps a disk search fragmentation problem is here.

I have also had the same problem occur in reason VERY occasionally.

I have read of another user with similar problems, powerbook as well, but internal and external audio.

corrupted OS file? hardware???

Any ideas anybody??

problems in live osx

i have live2.0.3 osx 10.2.6 on my 800mhz g4 at home and on os 9.2.2 on my 350mhz g3 at work, so far the osx version has been WAAAAy more stable than the os 9 version. as far as playing back live, i was getting some drop outs on complicated sessions then i realized i was really asking the program to look all over my hard drive for the various files, then i discoverd the save as self contained function where it copys all associated samples into one common folder this solved alot of problems !
