Recording

Post by barr » Mon Jul 24, 2006 12:23 am

Hello everyone,
I'm new to live and I have two questions regarding recording. One is, I want to be able to record my guitar and loop the clip so that I don't have to keep longer., I click the loop tab but the clip does not extend. My second question is when I want to edit a clip in the arrangement view, I set recording at 1 bar and I later want to edit part of the clip, the part that I want to edit is between bars but live does not let me do that even when I change the quantize to 1/32. Any suggerstion?

Thanks

a- after enabling loop, grab the right end of the clip with the mouse, and drag to the right

b- this is not the function of quantization. right-click and you can choose the resolution of the grid. 'adaptive' will make finer and finer grid lines as you zoom in. you can also turn off the grid altogether

You should check out the tutorial lessons in live.
A few tips:
1 - sounds like you're double clicking the clip. click it once and it will start recording based on the quantise settings. double clicking can lead to what you're seeing. the first click starts the recording, the second click stops recording after the quantised amount of time.

2 - I don't understand the question. is it that DRAW MODE (the pencil at the top of the screen) is off?

I've doing some bass guitar recording today in Session view. I set the loop for an area just wider than the section I want to play over. I hit loop, arm the track, hit overdub and record on the main shuttle. As I nail a take, I stop the recording in an area past where I want to keep (hence the reason the loop is too wide), then i edit off the ends and move on. This lets me loop over and record over the same section until I get it right.

I usually record guitar in arrangement view, I get some clips going and record into a track. I go back into the recording with a 2, 4 or 8 measure loop window open, as I find good takes I make new clips and move on.

I hope that helps, check the manual (using the search function on the .pdf works great) and those tutorials and look for thread about using footpedals for hands free recording.

Recording

That's actually my problem. Let just say that I recorded a guitar part for 6 bars., and I want to move the clip backward because the last note ended at 5.5 bar., when I want to move to that position, live takes me to bar 5 instead. I've tried to change the quatize to 1/36 so that I could drag the clip toward the left and stop at any space but I haven't been successful at it.
How Do you do that?

As for loop recording, I record a 4 bar bass part, I want to be able to expand that draggin the clip toward the right., let's say to the eight bar., I click the loop below under the envelops etc., but I'm not able to do that.

1- try changing the grid resolution, by right clicking in the arrangement and selecting 1/2 or 1/4 resolution from the context menu

2- don't try to drag in the clip view, but on the edge of the clip in the arrangement area above. loop must be enabled on the clip, though.

you get a little bracket icon when you hover over the edge of the clip. then you can drag it to the right...
