randomization

Post by technochris81 » Wed Jul 26, 2006 9:35 am

i really want a tab that automatically shows up at the top right of every vst that will randomize all the parameters.

does anybody know of an already existing way to do this?

If you're on windows, EnergyXT can do this (and a whole lot more).

Yeah I love that feature. Every host should have it!

I'd love to see some destructive randomization of midi/envelope data too!
Shuffle notes, random notes, random velocity, etc.
Live has plugins for this but some times you want to repeat the same random clip over and over without having to bounce down. Alos features that 'see into the future' or operate on selected notes, like rearrange selected notes etc would be much better implemented as a command in a clip.
Live is missig editing commands in general (besides swing and quantize).

raondomization is cheating, you should craft all your sounds with precision and care. indeed, it's almost as bad as using presets (sorry, couldn't resist).

I kinda agree with him, although I love using random but it's still alot like using presets ( in the sense that the sounds are made for you )
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

its not cheating! its just helping us to make new sounds. you wilways have to craft after randmization, its just a quick way to go through the soundspectrums an instrument can produce.

I take pride in designing my own sounds but if a preset is exactly what im looking for then I use it. I always feel like it is cheating but hell I bought the dam instrument for a reason.

Nah.

Some new and/or improved features.

sine, triangle, saw, puls oscillator with much improved hard-sync option.
granulator oscillator.
wavetable oscillator with smooth blending between tables and hard-sync.
sample oscillator (sample-player) with drag and drop support of .wav and .aiff files.
stackable oscillators.
one shaper section for each oscillator with new multimode filters.
new main filter with 5 new low-pass filter modes.
spatial and delay effects parameter can now be assigned to the modulator.
micro-tonal tuning with drag and drop support of .tun files (Anamark tunings).
new fast AHDSR envelopes.

presets and randomizing is not even close to cheeting..

see it as this;
a preset is nothing more than a combination of positions and values you did not put together YET..

DJ-ing is cheeting..
