VST plugin problem

Post by Hikaru90 » Sat Jul 29, 2006 2:06 am

Hi,
I'm new to live and just wanted to know why the virtual guitarist vst plugin doesn't work.
I use my pc-keyboard to send midi signals, but Impulse, Operator or Simpler are working great. When i drag and drop the plugin to my midi track and try to play something, I hear nothing.
Well I dont know whats wrong with it but it would be nice if someone could drop me a line how to fix my little problem.
Thx

I have this problem too. I bought Studio Case II which contains the "SE" versions of several VST plug-in instruments. Here's my success rate with 5.2.1 of Live:

The Grand SE - works fine
D'cota SE - works fine
Virtual Guitarise Electric Edition SE - works fine
Virtual Bassist SE - works fine
HALion SE - no good (see below)
Groove Agent SE - sometimes no good, sometimes fine (see below)

For the "no good" items, the VST plug in is receiving MIDI from Live 5. However, no audio is produced.

Any help much appreciated.

Live 5.2.1 also won't save my work, saying it is in demo mode. However, in Options->Preferences->Products it says it is unlocked. Bizarre! 5.0.2 does not have this "save" problem, but it does have the same VST problem as mentioned above.

I made some progress with HALion.

To get it to work within Live 5, I had to do the following.

1) Load the appropriate instrument data bank using the "load" button in the HALion device area at the bottom of the Live 5 screen. Note that this is different than when loading HALion into Cubase, where that menu appears right under the title bar of the HALion instrument window itself (the one with all the HALion program/filter/envelope/LFO controls).

2) Right click over a background area in the HALion instrument window, and select "Search in Directories...". Then select the directory that contains the HALion content (eg: the "Composer Series" directory, or one of its subdirectories). HALion will then search for samples within that directory.

That's it. Everything now seems to work, although it would be nice to have the HALion load/save buttons (along with any other HALion context sensitive menus) right there within the HALion instrument window in the same was as it happens in Cubase.

The sounds are nice, by the way.

Are you sure you armed the track?

dan1000,
you probably have operator in demo mode. If that's the case then you can't save.
You can hide it in the preferences/products.

Thanks. That did the trick. Live 5.2.1 was not in demo mode - it was fully activated. But Operator was still showing as in demo mode. Once I hid it, it started being able to save.

I'm still unable to get Groove Agent SE to play sounds through Live though, even though it is receiving MIDI events, and thinks it is generating sound.

Hi

I had this problem too. I'm on a Mac. I found that launching halion from the dock was the problem. Create a midi track in Live, then from your plug in device browser in Live drag halion into the blank area at the bottom of the Live window, making sure the midi track in question is selected, then use Halion's browser to load the samples.
